Product Context Awareness

All resources in the Scanning API (such as scans, targets, schedules, and reports) are product-specific.

Before creating, updating, or querying any resource, ensure that the correct product is currently active.

Always switch to the appropriate product using the Change User Product endpoint before interacting with product-specific resources.

Targets define the assets that will be scanned.

They represent the entry point for all scanning operations and are referenced by scans to determine what should be assessed.

A target can include one or more network assets and can be reused across multiple scans and schedules.

What Targets Are Used For

Targets are used by:

Scans, to determine which assets are assessed

A scan cannot run without at least one target.

Each target may include one or more values, provided as a comma-separated list:

Single IP addresses 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1

IP ranges 92.68.1.1-92.68.1.10

Hostnames / Domains example.com, api.example.com

The Number of IPs feature in your subscription defines how many unique IP addresses your organization can use across all targets.

Important rules:

Each unique IP is counted only once, even if:

It appears in multiple targets

It is reused across scans

Overlapping or duplicated IPs do not increase usage

IPs derived from ranges are counted individually

If adding or updating a target exceeds the allowed IP limit, the request will be rejected.
